The short version
Headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a factory UV layer on top. Sun breaks that layer down and the plastic underneath oxidizes to a yellow haze.
Polishing alone makes it look good for six weeks. We wet sand through the failed layer with four grits, polish to clarity, then spray a two-part automotive UV clear coat over the lens.
It is the cheapest thing you can do to make a ten-year-old car look cared for, and it measurably improves night-time light output.

Mask
Paint, trim and the light gaskets get taped so nothing sees sandpaper or overspray.

Sand
Four grits, wet, working from the coarse cut that removes the failed UV layer to a fine finish.

Polish
Machine polished to optical clarity, checked against a light source.

Coat
Two-part automotive clear coat, sprayed, which is what makes the result last.

Forced cure in the bay so you can drive away the same afternoon.
